GIG Conference Highlights:
Roberta Tripp, MS, RD, LDN, and Linda Weller, Branch Manager, will be attending the National GIG Annual Conference in Orlando in July.
As in the past, highlights from educational materials and information from all the speakers will be shared.  If you would like a copy of the handout, we ask you reserve your copy by July 10th, and a fee will be asked to cover the printing costs.

We will also be holding a HEALTHY DESSERT CONTEST with all the desserts being shared for all to taste after the program. Copies of the recipes will also be available and prizes awarded. Since the year of 2011 has been about IMPROVING OUR HEALTH the Healthy Dessert Contest will be an exciting part of our July 25th program.
Guidelines for the Healthy Dessert Contest:

  1. Choose a dessert that provides healthy alternative ingredients — i.e. very little sugar or use a substitute like honey and other healthy, whole foods.
  2. Your will need to supply your recipe prior to the event by mail or email. Deadline is July  10th.  No late entrees will be accepted.
  3. All desserts must arrive by 6:00 p.m. on July 25th for judging and winners will be announced at 6:30 and prizes awarded.
  4. All the desserts will then be shared with our members after the program at the hospitality table.

101 Gluten Sensitivities Class

This class is specifically designed for those newly diagnosed with celiac disease, wheat allergy, or gluten intolerance and for those just looking for updated educational information. This program shares current information in a small group format for those learning how to adhere to a gluten free and wheat free diet. We will have available an educational packet used during the class for a fee of $5.00 ($4.00 for members). Gluten free refreshments and a take-home shopping bag with gluten free samples and literature will be provided for free. Pre-registration is highly recommended to assure proper set up and sufficient handouts.

Steps to follow to place an order through the Food Co-Op:

1) Check out the Gluten Free items available from Garden Spot Distributors by going to their website – Click on "Products" on the left column of the Garden Spot Distributors webpage.

2) Call Steve Rosenberg at 717-652-3177 or email to obtain the current case prices of items of interest. Remember that a small change in price could occur from the time ordered and the actual delivery date.

3) Monthly special list will be emailed to all members as soon as received from Garden Spot.

4) You may place an order at the upcoming meeting or download the order form from this website (see below). Mail your order form to Juanita Julian (1468 Park Lane, Harrisburg, PA 17112) with your check made payable to “GIG of Harrisburg” to arrive no later than the above listed deadline.

5) In order to place an order with Garden Spot, we will need to receive a grand total of $400 in orders and payments by the deadline.
